It reminded me of how I long have wondered what exactly are the perks of becoming an NGO member of the U.N.
Hi Sol,
Lynchpin probably knows more about it than I do, but from what I know WT says they joined to have access to the UN's library. Why Jehovah's Organization needs to have "clearance" to the UN's library would be a good discussion for those who consider themselves a part of it, wouldn't you think?
From JW. ORG:
What It Means: Being no part of the world, Jesus was neutral in the social and political conflicts of the day. “If my kingdom were part of this world,” he explained, “my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” (John 18:36) He also urged his followers to shun attitudes, speech, and conduct condemned in God’s Word.—Matthew 20:25-27.

Thanks for your input on this Stranger.
Yes I remember hearing that poor excuse, but I always had difficulty believing it. Figured that things like tax benefits and increased investment opportunities were much more likely.
I'm still in touch with at least one person who seems to want to remain a part of the organization, and he is evidently far from the only one who has increasingly observed them becoming ever more corporate or business-like in the way they operate. Doubt that he will be there much longer.
Really shot themselves in the foot with that excuse either way. Made it look like they put a very cheap price on genuine "Christian" neutrality or otherwise selling out "Jehovah's organization" to satan's system of things.
As far as I know they are still an OSCE member of the U.N., but I heard a report that they discontinued membership as an NGO not long after getting caught by the Guardian Newspaper in London. Not sure if it's true. Maybe you've heard something.
Agape love;
Sol

As you know anything is possible Sol, WT was rolling along real good until the "Jimmy Swaggart" era came too an end. If I remember right the WTS had some attorneys on Jimmy's side, but to no avail. Things changed, like the the tax laws, so between 1999 and 2001 GB 2.0 was on the seen with new literature but planned other means to disseminate it. They too wanted to cash in on the World wide web, the very thing that was/is Satan the devil as told by GB 1.0.
As far as the OSCE, I don't doubt it, just look at the color of their logo.

Brother Get out of her, my apologies re my delay in answering.
I do recall the difficulty of their becoming a ngo but still have had to look up on the matter as time tends to fade memory. Yes, The Guardian newspaper wrote about their joining.
