The more unaddressed teachings of Jesus

#1 Post by Get out of her » 10 months ago

The more we go over the four Gospel accounts over the years and carefully consider the teachings of Jesus that are covered in them during his 3 1/2 year ministry, particularly in view of what the Apostle John had to say in John at John 21:25 there are at least two or three things about them that should really begin to stand out as rather noteworthy to us. These are things which may have never even occurred to us before. Please take a moment to consider these thoughts or questions:

First of all try to imagine four different news correspondents or journalists (if you will) endeavoring to cover the very same event or story in a conscientious and comprehensive manner that would actually begin to do it justice. In this case we are obviously dealing with events and lectures or even simply statements that not only occurred over a time span of several years, but also ones that according to John ultimately amounted to a rather overwhelming volume of material in the end. Once again in view of what the Apostle John had to say at John 21:25 alone, we should already be helped to understand that what we are considering in the Gospel accounts represents a VERY condensed coverage of the ministry of Jesus. But let's get past the obvious here. In view of this information alone I'd have to insist that AMONG the things that should occur to us is something that indeed WILL by simply asking ourselves this question:

Why would it be the case that with all the material these Bible writers had to work with, all four of them (with the exception of John's account to some extent written around 98 CE) seemed determined to focus not only on just a very small portion of it, but also basically on the EXACT SAME portion? In fact if Jehovah's Holy Spirit were not involved in all this, wouldn't the fact that these gospel writings occurred over several decades while these writers at the same time would have had access to EARLIER ones (with the exception of Matthew who evidently wrote the first account around 41 CE) make this all the more remarkable? After all, as the years would unfold, why wouldn't these writers naturally be more concerned with events and teachings of Jesus that had not ALREADY been widely circulated among the populace?

Yes it should already be rather clear to us not only that a rather unusual set of circumstances was involved in all this, but also that JEHOVAH was intent on directing our attention CONTINUALLY and REPEATEDLY to the things about this ministry that HE knew we should be MOST focused on understanding and appreciating. Even more specifically, these would be teachings of his word that would apply much more particularly to the settings or prophetic time frames that are being ADDRESSED in the Gospel accounts! Yes the fact is that Jesus in his statements was ALWAYS referring to or even QUOTING from events and writings that had ALREADY occurred even long before he arrived on the earth! But what is more, at least generally speaking these references and quotes THEMSELVES happen to be from scriptural passages that were ALSO written in the VERY SAME setting that Jesus found himself in during the time of his ministry. What setting or context was this?

Once again this was one in which an act of spiritual adultery on the part of Jehovah's theocratically appointed shepherds had resulted in not only a "divorcing" of a now "APOSTATE nation" on the part of Jehovah, but also the birth of yet another figurative "DAUGHTER of his people." (Jer 3:8 8:11) (Isa 10:5) Due to what was now once again a plethora of FALSE shepherds that this broken "holy covenant" had "put in place" of Jehovah's Holy Spirit, this "daughter" was of course now experiencing a complete "breakdown." (Da 11:30-32) (1 Sa 16:14) (Eze 23:1-4) (Mt 3:7 9:36 15:9) In fact what was now once again a "great harlot" as opposed to Israel was as always facing complete destruction in the case of any and all who would refuse to "REPENT" over this spiritual "prostitution." (Isa 1:21 47:1-4 57:1-5) (Mt 3:1, 2 4:17)

Yes just as is in fact the case with the greater portion of the holy writings, the setting we are considering in the Gospel accounts is ENTIRELY in the one that ALWAYS requires another of the foretold "births of the barren woman" or what is also referred to as a "coming of the kingdom." (Jer 15:9) (1 Sa 2:5) (Mt 4:17) (Isa 54:1-4 66:7, 8) (Lu 22:28, 29) (Col 1:13) The Apostle Paul confirms that this is a setting in which the "apostasy" that Daniel speaks of prophetically in Daniel Chapter 11 and which Jesus himself points to in accounts like Matthew 24:15, 16 results in "A god sitting down in the temple of THE God…" or otherwise the extremely tragic turn of events that the Apostle John openly announced at 1 John 2:18 around the year 98 CE. (2 Th 2:1-4) (1 Cor 3:16, 17) (Da 11:30-32) Nevertheless to speak in terms of another foretold "coming of the kingdom" is essentially another way of saying—the coming of a new world power since ANY nation on the earth that represents the power and authority of Jehovah will of course ALWAYS soon manifest itself as such. As long as we continue to overlook things such as this just as we have long been programmed to, there is so much about these Gospel accounts ALONE we will fail to ever fully grasp or appreciate.

This brings me to ANOTHER thought or two that I would ask my dear brothers and sisters to ponder for a moment. Can any of us even truly say we have EVER experienced ANY of the teachings of Jesus being explained to us by ANY organized religion in ANY manner that can genuinely be recognized as supported with things like reference scriptures and sound reasoning on them? And if in fact we ever actually HAVE experienced this, then the question would be---then why do basically all of us continue to be plagued with questions and confusion on them? This despite the fact that these same religions seem increasingly intent on reminding us that Jesus in particular always taught in a way that was so simple and easy to understand, and therefore we should follow his example in this regard as well.

Yes it would seem that ALL of these religious leaders have overlooked not only the fact that they THEMSELVES cannot genuinely explain most if not ALL of Jesus' teachings, but also very clear statements by JESUS HIMSELF that his teachings were ANYTHING BUT easy to understand. He made it perfectly clear in fact that if Jehovah's Holy Spirit were not involved; even the "wise and intellectual" ones would CONTINUE recognizing at least MOST of them as "sacred secrets" or even "mysteries." This is of course assuming they would even recognize them as "sacred" to begin with rather than as mere "foolishness." (Mt 11:25-27 13:11 16:17) (1 Cor 1:18) (2 Th 2:7)

With these things in mind the purpose of this thread is to begin going over what I will refer to as the much less addressed teachings of Jesus. In case we have failed to notice, most people seem to focus primarily on what is covered under the "sign of the times" even if they also fail to truly explain these teachings or prophesies as well. Since I have already gone into relative depth on what is being conveyed to us in Jesus' "sermon on the mount" on at least one occasion over the years, my intention with this thread is to basically cover many of the ones that are seldom even touched on in any meaningful manner by ANYONE. The fact is however as we continue to genuinely consider these teachings IN LIGHT of things like reference scriptures and sound reasoning, I can assure everyone in advance that a much more accurate understanding of the "sign of the times" at least SHOULD become much more evident to them. Once again, ultimately it is all about Jehovah's Holy Spirit and the issue of whether or not we are being endowed with it by obeying all the divine commands pertaining to these post-apostasy/pre-kingdom time frames. (Mt 24:15, 16 25:27, 34-40) (2 Cor 6:17) (Re 18:2)

But do we FAIL to accept or appreciate that basically NONE of the teachings of Jesus are ever actually covered (at least in OUR lifetime) by so called "Bible teachers" in a genuine manner, or otherwise one that cannot be quickly overturned by simply considering reference scriptures that directly contradict the understanding that is being advocated to us? Throughout this entire thread will be demonstrating this as factual just as I have in fact been doing for several years already with Bible teachings in general. But by all means let's establish this statement of mine as truthful also with my first example here. This would be the words or teachings of Jesus found at Matthew 9:14, 15:

"Then John's disciples came to him and asked: "Why is it that we and the Pharisees practice fasting but your disciples do not fast?" At this Jesus said to them; "The friends of the bridegroom have no reason to mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, do they? But days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast." Compare (Mr 2:18-20) (Lu 5:33, 34)

Obviously we are considering yet another illustration here, and its meaning is so "simple" (as we seem to always be led to believe) that it REQUIRES no explanation; correct? So "simple" and obvious in fact that perhaps we have never personally even witnessed or experienced any attempt whatsoever on the part of a religious leader to explain it at all, let alone demonstrate this explanation as factual with reference scriptures and sound logic.

On the SURFACE at least it would appear that Jesus is speaking here about the fact that he would soon be facing torture and death at the hands of the "Jewish" religious leaders and the Roman soldiers. MOST people would naturally assume that this is exactly what Jesus was referring to on this occasion; but since when was the Bible written to "most people?" Perhaps we have once again overlooked the fact that Jesus himself made it clear his illustrations were in reality "sacred secrets" that even his own DISCIPLES would often struggle to comprehend! (Mt 13:10, 11 15:15, 16) Perhaps we have already forgotten that the ENTIRE WORD OF GOD is ultimately identified as "carefully concealed" or "hidden treasures" that even the "wise and intellectual ones" would generally not comprehend if Jehovah's Holy Spirit did not "reveal" it to them due to their continued "asking" and relentless "seeking." (Col 2:3) (Pr 2:4) (Mt 7:7, 8 11:25 16:17) Perhaps we CONTINUE to ignore Paul's words found at Romans 11:25, Isaiah's words found at Isaiah 42:19, or Daniels words found at Daniel 12:3, 4, 8, 9 that even Jehovah's true PROPHETS would suffer from a "dullness of sensibilities" in connection with Bible teachings at least in a relative sense until the Millennial Reign.

Nevertheless the fact that Jesus is NOT speaking about his upcoming violent death here in his reply to John's disciples can be established by considering Matthew 28:18-20 alone. Here Jesus informs his disciples that he would in fact "be with them all the way to the conclusion of the system of things" which on this particular "time" or foretold "birth of the barren woman" would prove to culminate with the events that occurred between the years of 70-74 CE. (Da 4:23, 32) (Jer 15:9) (1 Sa 2:5) So the obvious question now would be—what exactly WAS Jesus speaking of here in Matthew 9:14, 15?

By all means let us pick up this discussion with this question in my next post. Meanwhile if anyone would like to share a thought or two on it I would of course encourage them to do so.

For any interested, below are some links to threads on this forum that discuss various aspects of the gospel accounts:

  • The Sign of Jonah. (Discussed in this thread.)

On the question of when each gospel account was written, there are different views from the one expressed in the post above. See this thread for some discussion of that.

On the question of fasting in Mt 9:14-15, the whole passage or pericope is Mt 9:14-17. It is also paralleled in Mr 2:18-22 & Luke 5:33-39.

There are also numerous threads that discuss just one small aspect or one verse, too numerous to link to in one post. Whether they are authoritative or not is up to the reader to determine for him/her self. But there is plenty to look at.

Below are additional gospel related links that may be useful for this thread:

  • Regarding Inaugurated Eschatology. (Links to discussions of this term. The term refers to the kingdom of God, a major theme of Jesus' ministry, and its 'now and yet later' fulfillment.)
  • The Last Days in the NT. (This includes references to Matthew's phrase, "conclusion of the system of things," and the 4th gospel's phrase, "the last day.")
  • Gentile Times ... Reconsidered. (A thread, with numerous links, discussing the Gentile Times in Luke 21:24 and its relationship with Dan 4. We've had a number of threads on this and many of them are linked to in this thread.)
  • Most Truly I Say .... (A thread on Jesus' use of this phrase throughout the synoptic gospels. The 4th gospel has the unique, "truly, truly I say ....")
  • Heaven or Heavens. (A thread discussing any possible difference between the singular and plural form of heaven, as in "kingdom of the heaven[s].)

Scripturally establishing what is NOT meant by any particular statement of Jesus of course makes what is ACTUALLY being conveyed all the more viable to ALSO establish scripturally. What Jesus was actually speaking of here in Matthew 9:14, 15 in connection with the "bridegroom" being "taken away" from his bride at some point has everything to do with this figurative "thief in the night" spoken of in accounts like Matthew 24:43 that would in effect break into Jehovah's "house." Thieves of course do not do so unless it is with the intention of taking things away. (Joh 10:1, 7-14)

As we consider passages like this which are of course basically repeated verbatim in the accounts of Mark and Luke, we would do well to understand that if there is any mystery to exactly what is being stolen by this figurative "thief in the night, " it is cleared up right here in scriptures like Matthew 9:14, 15. In fact accounts such as found at Daniel 11:30-32 that Jesus pointed to when speaking prophetically of what would soon once again be found in INSTEAD of him in the "holy place" that he was restoring at that very moment as well as ones such as 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8 are in fact confirmations as well as elaborations on this very same divine message. Moreover this information which is of INCALCULABLE importance for us to grasp and appreciate ESPECIALLY in these post-apostasy/pre-kingdom time frames is confirmed in OTHER ways throughout the scriptures, some of which I will be covering in this discussion.

Among the problems involved in this however is that we have all been well programmed to ALSO overlook the earthshaking implications involved in this, not to mention the fact that Jesus himself ultimately pointed to a total of THREE TIMES that his anointed brothers would find themselves IN NEED of "staying on the watch" for this figurative "thief." (Lu 12:38)

Rest assured it is no coincidence that along with prophetic parables or illustrations such a this "bridegroom" being "taken away" from his bride, we ALSO correspondingly find symbolic representations or prophetic DRAMAS in these same gospel accounts of Jesus "brothers" falling asleep in a setting in which they were commanded to "stay on the watch" for this theft along with the notion that failure to do so on their part would actually amount to a "disowning" of Jesus. In fact this failure would amount to exactly "THREE denials" on the part of the anointed ones. (Mt 26:38-47 69-75) This foretold phenomenon is actually repeated for us MANY times in the scriptures and in MANY different ways, and we would do very well to note that the number THREE is CONSISTENTLY attributed to this phenomenon AS WELL as the number seven. A good example would be the parable of Jesus in which the "kingdom of the heavens" is likened to "three large measures of flour" which ultimately experience a complete "leavening." (Mt 13:33)

At some point Jesus made it perfectly clear what was being conveyed symbolically by this "leaven," but are we beginning to better appreciate why the number THREE continues to be assigned to these symbolisms? (Mt 16:6) Regardless of whether these tragedies are represented symbolically as spiritual famines, drought, falls, sicknesses, nakedness and uncleanness, deaths, fastings, mournings, periods of sleep, darkness, bondage, custody, slavery, etc; or even "seven Sabbaths, both the number three as well as seven is consistently associated with them throughout the entire Bible. OF COURSE this should prompt the question in our minds as to why this is the case. (Ge 40:12, 19 41:22-24 42:17) (Ex 10:22) (1 Sa 30:12, 13) (2 Sa18:14 21:1 24:13) (Re 17:10) (1 Ki 18:1) (2 Ki 5:14 17:21:22) (Le 19:23 23:15 26:23, 24) (Es 4:16) (Isa 20:3) (Eze 21:14) (Da 4:23, 32 7:20 10:2, 3) (Mt 25:5, 35, 36 27:45, 46) (Jon 1:17) (Mt 12:39, 40)

Let's by all means endeavor to pick up the discussion with this question beginning with my next post.

Re: The more unaddressed teachings of Jesus

What we would do very well to understand here is that regardless of the fact that there would be a total of "seven times" that a broken holy marriage covenant would result in Jehovah's nation experiencing a "chastising" and even a "divorcing" from him during this foretold period of foreign "captivity and exile" referred to also as the "gentile times" or "appointed times of the nations," the scriptures also make it perfectly clear that ultimately the entire focus here would be all about what ones like the Apostle Paul referred to as the "REALITY" of the Christ and his kingdom as opposed to merely the "shadow" or "typical representation" of such. (Le 26:18) (Jer 3:8) (He 8:5 9:24) (Col 2:17)

DO WE UNDERSTAND that the "divorce" spoken of here in Jeremiah as well as Isaiah for that matter was announced CENTURIES before the Mosaic Law Covenant was made altogether "obsolete" or otherwise "FULFILLED" by the arrival in the first century of what it prophetically and symbolically "typified" in the first place. (Isa 50:1) (He 8:5, 13) (Mt 5:17) DO WE GRASP the fact that this as well as its specific TIMING was directly connected to what we are considering in accounts like 2 Kings 23:31-35 where we learn that the holy marriage or kingdom covenant that QUALIFIES people as Israel and thus as belonging to Jehovah had been BROKEN with spiritual adultery for the first of the "seven times" that it WOULD be during what would NOW be 2,520 of foreign "captivity and exile" in connection even with RENEWED holy covenants? (Da 4:23, 32)

In other words, what we are considering in the opening Chapter of Haggai roughly 70 years later when Jehovah was prepared to make the MEDO-PERSIAN Empire his NEW "anointed shepherd" as opposed to Babylon (due to the broken holy covenant we read about in Daniel Chapter five) is the formal agreement or renewed COVENANT that ALWAYS results or LEADS to what would now be the NEXT foretold "birth of the barren woman" to occur during these "seven times" or "gentile times." (Isa 44:28 45:1) (Jer 15:9 25:9) (Hag 1:12, 13) (1 Sa 2:5) (Da 4:23, 32)

It was precisely the moment that Daniel and his three Hebrew companions began to actually "LISTEN" and PAY HEED to the words of Jeremiah and Ezekiel (the "two witnesses" or even "son of man" of the FIRST of these "seven births" or "seven kings") (Hag 1:12) (Eze 2:1) (Re 11:3 17:10) just as "Rahab the prostitute" began to listen to the "two spies" sent to this "great city" that was about to be destroyed so that "their souls could die INSTEAD of hers and her household." (Jos 2:1, 14) It was at THAT MOMENT that Jehovah's holy covenant was renewed or even transferred to the Babylonian Empire which resulted in the endowment of FULL theocratic power and authority upon Daniel and his faithful companions AS WELL as "Nebuchadrezzar" who was now identified as JEHOVAH'S "servant." (Jer 25:9) (Da 2:46-49) The fact that all this involved a renewed holy "covenant" (obviously the Mosaic Law Covenant in this case) is confirmed also in Ezekiel 17:16-24.

The "transplanting" of the forfeited theocratic power and authority being spoken of here in Ezekiel was in this case soon to be fulfilled when Jehovah's holy spirit and its corresponding power and authority would be reintroduced upon King "Cyrus" of the Medo-Persian Empire due to the fact that at least a "FEW" people began to "listen" to the NEXT "two witnesses" that Jehovah dispatched in this case, namely Haggai and Zechariah. (Isa 44:28 45:1) (Mt 22:14) Jehovah began to be "WITH" the ones these prophets were ministering to at that moment due to the fact that the unfaithful events covered in Daniel Chapter five meant that the figurative heavenly "bridegroom" had yet again been "TAKEN AWAY" from them. (Hag 1:12, 13) (Mt 9:15) (Mt 23:38) (Re 21:2, 9)

There is ALWAYS an "abandoning" of the earthly portion of Jehovah's "house" when this spiritual adultery occurs along with a commensurate "journeying abroad" on the part of this figurative "man of noble birth" spoken of in accounts like Luke 19:12 to ONCE AGAIN "secure kingly power for himself." (Mt 23:38) When this holy kingdom or even marriage covenant is violated and a "divorcing" on the part of Jehovah occurs, there is now NO "ruler and contender with God" on the earth or otherwise the exact definition of ISRAEL! No Israel in turn means –no Israelites or for that matter Jews as well which actually comprise its anointed rulers or shepherds. Moreover this REMAINS the case until this broken covenant can be RENEWED with another foretold arrival and ministry of the NEXT foretold "two witnesses" or "son of man." (Re 11:3, 7, 8, 11, 12) (Eze 2:1)

It was NOT to Israelites that these particular prophets were ministering to since a broken kingdom covenant means that Israelites no longer EXIST! This is precisely the reason we find ones like Jeremiah being explicitly identified as "prophet to the NATIONS"! (Jer 1:5) With this in mind let's not forget that fleshly Israel was intended as a "typical representation and a shadow" or "copy" of SPIRITUAL Israel. It is precisely for this reason that the spiritual "killing" of the "holy ones" being prophesied by the Apostle John in Revelation 13:7, 8 is equated or associated simultaneously with a representation of death upon what is now identified as "EVERY people and tribe and tongue and nation" AS OPPOSED to Israel! People who no longer belong to Jehovah correspondingly no longer benefit from his loving care, protection and SALVATION, and that is exactly what accounts for what we read here in verse 8 of Revelation 13 in connection with a spiritual death of the "holy ones" or otherwise a "conquering" or figurative "killing" of them at the hands of the "wild beast."

DO WE UNDERSTAND that what Jesus is prophesying there in Matthew 25:10 applies also to OUR time period or in fact ANY in which we would once again find ourselves eagerly anticipating another "coming of the kingdom"? Just as was demonstrated also for us in the early part of the first century with the "two witnesses" of THAT time period (Obviously John the Baptist and Jesus on this occasion or "time"), a "coming of the kingdom" essentially IS a renewing of a broken holy covenant"! (Lu 22:28, 29) This renewed covenant n turn meant that Israel once again EXISTED on the earth even if it would now qualify as SPIRITUAL Israel or what is often referred to also as true Christianity. In turn since this "ark of the COVENANT" actually existed again, this correspondingly meant that the SALVATION this ark or "sanctuary" always furnishes for repentant mankind once again existed AS WELL. What is also described or identified here as the "continual sacrifice" would CONTINUE to furnish this protection or salvation until if or when this holy marriage covenant would once again be violated with spiritual adultery or what is also identified as an "apostasy on the part of the appointed theocratic shepherds it is always formed with. (Da 11:30-32) (2 Th 2:1-8)

With this information in mind, we would do well to factor in the specific setting or even "season" of a "time" we are dealing with here in Matthew when these words were spoken by Jesus. (1 Th 5:1-3) This was namely one in which spiritual adultery had once again reduced the "bride of the Lamb" into completely "devastated" and even spiritually "sleeping widows and virgins" in desperate need of the figurative "marriage feast" or renewed covenant that on this occasion was recorded for us in Luke 22:28, 29. (Mt 25:1, 2, 5, 10) (La 1:1, 4) (Eze 38:8) (Re 21:2, 9) (Isa 54:1-4) But why might it be even EXTREMELY important for US even at this very moment to in fact begin very PRAYERFULLY taking these things into consideration? Let's by all means endeavor to pick up this discussion with this question beginning with my next post.

First of all in connection with the kingdom covenant that Jesus and John the Baptist were at that very moment assisting Jehovah with renewing for the fifth of the "seven times" that it would NEED to be during the "appointed times of the nations," there would be precisely THREE world powers or "kings" among the "seven" the Apostle John spoke of in Revelation 17:10 that would experience a spiritual "fall" or even "leavening" of the figurative "Pharisees" as a result of FAILING to "keep on the watch" for this "thief in the night" who would steal away the "BRIDEGROOM" that a renewed and inaugurated kingdom covenant ALWAYS furnishes for what is represented here as the "bride." (Re 21:2)

It would be for this very reason that just two days before he would "inaugurate" this renewed covenant, we find Jesus prophesying future times in which his anointed brothers would once again not only qualify as "sleeping" spiritual "virgins" or even "widows" as opposed to "brides of the lamb," but would by extension find themselves in dire need of somehow attending the next foretold "marriage feast." (Lu 22:28, 29) (He 9:16-18) (Mt 25:1, 2, 5, 10 26:2) THIS is the reason we so often find not only the number "seven" being associated with these foretold "births of the barren woman" to occur during the "appointed times of the nations," but also the number THREE.

DURING the foretold time span of foreign exile and captivity in which even FOREIGN kings would be included among Jehovah's "anointed shepherds," the spiritual "falls" these "seven kings" would experience which (once again) is also described as an act of adultery or even "harlotry" committed against Jehovah on their part (since this "holy covenant" is also recognized by him as "MARRIAGE covenant") ALWAYS assign a MUCH LONGER name to what would INITIALLY qualify simply as "Babylon the Great." (Isa 44:28 45:1) (Re 17:10) (Isa 1:21) (Eze 23:1-4) This new name is found at Revelation 17:5 and is often abbreviated simply to expressions like "the Great Harlot," "the son of destruction" or the "antichrist." (Re 17:6) Compare (Mt 24:15, 16) Babylon the Great and the "Great Harlot" are NOT the same entities, and the many years we have been led to believe otherwise is simply another example of the MANY ways we have long been led astray from true teachings of God's word as a RESULT of yet another foretold "break in" of Jehovah's "house" or "temple." (1 Cor 3:16, 17) (Isa 28:8)

As we can see here in 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17, a break in of Jehovah's "sanctuary" of salvation or "ark of his covenant" amounts to even a "DESTRUCTION" of it, and this in turn is the reason why this "antichrist" or "man of lawlessness" is also identified as the "son of DESTRUCTION" as well as what would now be "standing" in this "holy place" INSTEAD of this figurative "bridegroom." Once again the word –"antichrist" literally means—substitute or replacement Christ and by extension substitute ANOINTING since this is literally what the word Christ is defined as. (Strong's #473 #5547) (1 Sa 16:14) It is precisely because this "disgusting thing" now occupying the "holy place" failed to "KEEP the holy law "covenant" that it is now identified also as the "man of LAWLESSNESS." (Ex 19:5) (Da 11:31) (2 Th 2:3, 4)

In other words what we are considering here with the word-"antichrist" is exactly what we find being described in accounts like Daniel 11:30-32 and 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, or for that matter even illustrated symbolically in prophetic dramas like 1 Samuel 16:14. The "bridegroom" that is being "taken away" from his "bride" by means of this "apostasy" involving the "leaving of the holy covenant" on the part of Jehovah's appointed earthly shepherds is of course JESUS CHRIST! Are we aware that the placing of these two words together literally conveys the meaning of –Jehovah's anointed means of SALVATION!? Is it ANY WONDER therefore that here in Daniel 11:31 the taking away of this "bridegroom" is associated with the taking away of the "CONTINUAL SACRIFICE"! Let's not forget that it is always ultimately the priestly SACRIFICE of the Christ that furnishes this salvation or otherwise transforms ones among the "body of MANY members of the Christ" into members also of JESUS Christ! (Ro 12:4, 5) (1 Cor 12:12) (Re 6:11) Once again at least SOME among the anointed would eventually qualify themselves not only as fellow "KINGS" along with their leader but also as fellow "PRIESTS." (Re 5:10 6:11)

Are we beginning to better understand some of the things that the Apostle John is speaking of PROPHETICALLY in the book of Revelation? (Re 1:1 7:10 11:3, 7, 8, 11, 12 13:7, 8) Regardless of how many years this substitute Christ once again "standing in the holy place" continues to "tickle our ears" with teachings to the contrary, NONE of the above scriptures as well as many more will EVER make any sense at all to us as long as we continue buying into these lies. (2 Ti 4:3) We will simply be unable to "render our sacred service with our power of reason" for as long as we continue sitting at the spiritual tables spoken of in accounts like Isaiah 28:8. (Ro 12:1) (2 Cor 6:17) There is simply no need for Jehovah to once again FURNISH the "salvation" PROPHESIED in passages like Revelation 7:10 if mankind would not commensurately be dealing with the tragic event spoken of in accounts like Revelation 13:7, 8; namely another "taking away of the bridegroom" from his "bride."

Yes the "taking away" of JESUS CHRIST from Jehovah's holy temple would OF COURSE amount to stealing away his corresponding SALVATION or what up until this "apostasy" would have qualified as a "CONTINUAL sacrifice"! (Da 11:31) This is largely the reason that another foretold "coming of the kingdom" is so necessary or crucial at this point! The events prophesied for us in accounts such as the above would simply not be necessary or even POSSIBLE if this were not the case. What this means among other things is that when we are considering scriptures such as found at Hebrews 9:12 where we learn that the priestly sacrifice of the "foundation cornerstone" of Jehovah's spiritual temple was "once for all time," this is in the sense that Jehovah is able to apply the priceless value of this PERFECT blood to ALL of the foretold renewals of his holy covenant, INCLUDING the four that had ALREADY been renewed during the foretold period of the "gentile times" or "births of the barren woman" WELL BEFORE the first century! (He 9:16-18) (1 Pe 2:6) (Jer 15:9)

Scriptural teachings such as this is very difficult for people to appreciate or accept after experiencing an entire lifetime of the spiritual teachings that ALWAYS begin streaming out of the "holy place" when this "disgusting thing" is installed in it, but this is largely what accounts for prophesies such as found at Malachi 2:23 or 1 Peter 2:7, 8. (Re 16:13) Rest assured when Jehovah's true prophets arrive on the earth to renew the broken covenant with a few repentant ones among the anointed they DO NOT do so with the intention of continuing to "tickle their ears" with the kind of lies Jesus points to prophetically in passages like Luke 16:1-8. (2 Ti 4:3) (Mal 3:2, 3) (Ro 9:33) (1 Pe 2:8) But if even Jesus himself would basically experience what was recorded for us in John 3:32 during one of these seven foretold courtships between the "bridegroom" and what once again qualified merely as his PROSPECTIVE or POTENTIAL "bride," what would this imply for the sinful and imperfect prophets that would follow him in the ministries to these same "sleeping" spiritual "widows" and "virgins" he foretold for future times? (Mt 25:1, 2, 5, 10) (La 1:1, 4) (Eze 33:32)

Re: The more unaddressed teachings of Jesus

#9 Post by Get out of her » 8 months ago

Would information such as this not begin putting us in a much better position to comprehend many other symbolic expressions of Jesus, such as the prophetic parable of the "man of noble birth" who at some point finds himself in need of "traveling to a distant land to secure kingly power for himself." (Lu 19:12) (Mt 25:14) (Mr 13:34, 35) You see this is simply another way of illustrating the "breaking in" of Jehovah's house and the "stealing away" of the "bridegroom" from his "bride." The removal of Jesus from Jehovah's earthly "sanctuary" by means of this spiritual adultery is of courses also the removal of his corresponding kingly authority and power! As always the returning of this "bridegroom" to his "bride" will require a sequence of events that involve a period of time as well as eventually the ministry that is represented as being assigned to "slaves" that are now in effect LEFT BEHIND by their master, as if their "house" was now "ABANDONED to them." (Mt 23:37, 38 25:14, 15 34-40)

The more we begin to actually comprehend what is being conveyed in all this symbolic spiritual language, the more we will in turn come to realize that ALL these scriptural terms and teachings THROUGHOUT the Bible are DIRECTLY connected to each other. For that reason it is very difficult to speak of one of these symbolic expressions without speaking really of ALL of them in the case of a teacher who actually understands their deeper or even "carefully concealed" meanings. (Col 2:3)

So what about this "fasting" here then that Jesus is speaking of in Matthew 9:14, 15 in connection with the "taking away of the bridegroom"? Why is it being associated with the actions of this "thief in the night" that succeeds in breaking into Jehovah's house and what is the message being directed to the anointed "virgins" and "widows" here with this symbolic spiritual language? (Mt 24:43)

Throughout the entire Bible fasting has been associated with mourning and that alone should begin helping us to better understand why we find it being associated with this stealing away of the "bridegroom" from his "bride." However particularly when we begin taking note of ADDITIONAL things that are consistently found ALONG WITH this notion of fasting and mourning in the scriptures, we will quickly find ourselves in a better position to understand that there is also an even much deeper and much more SERIOUS meaning or message being conveyed here. This is not a LITERAL fasting we are considering here but rather a spiritual one. The question here is how exactly are we to perform this fasting the moment we "catch sight" of the fact that the "bridegroom" has once again been stolen from Jehovah's "holy place" and substituted with a very "disgusting thing." Coming to understand this would in turn help us to ALSO better comprehend how we are to accomplish this "fleeing" being commanded of us here. (Mt 24:15, 16)

The concept of fasting and mourning and even "afflicting of ones soul" is in fact REPEATEDLY found right alongside the meanings being conveyed simultaneously by ancient observances such as the "new moon" and "Sabbath," "unfermented cakes," "Passover" or "day of atonement." (Le 23:1-8, 14, 28, 29) (2 Ki 4:23) (Isa 1:13) (Pr 7:20) (Mt 25:14, 19) Is the symbolic meaning of a "new moon" in connection with all of this already becoming more apparent to us?

The fact that the moon has been explicitly used on at least one or more occasions in the scriptures to symbolize the "footstool" of Jehovah or even the luminary of the earthly "camp" of his "woman" or "Shulammite" might begin to make much more sense to us when we begin to connect the things we have already considered to additional scriptures such as these.-- (Re 12:1, 2) (Song 6:13) (Isa 66:1) In turn the fact that the Sabbath observance is directly associated with the number seven might bring to our minds things like the prophetic drama of the "seven marches around the city of Jericho." (Jos 6:2-5) Compare (Ps 81:3) (Re 8:2, 6) (Mt 10:23) But why exactly might this be?

To begin with not only does this name Jericho literally mean—moon city, but the fact that it is represented in this case here in Joshua with not only a "fall" but also a "prostitute" might begin to direct our minds toward not only what always creates the NEED for a "new moon," but also how many "TIMES" this renewal, rebirth, or even "circuit of the cities of Israel" would be REQUIRED prior to the Millennial Reign! (Da 4:23, 32) (Mt 10:23) Now upon learning that an even more accurate translation of the Hebrew word—Shabbat would be more like—a cessation of a particular task for the purpose of embarking on another as opposed to simply resting altogether as we are commonly led to believe, we should actually find ourselves a bit struck already that a Sabbath is constantly being associated with fasting and mourning in the scriptures, let alone a "new moon." (Lu 13:15, 16) (Joh 5:17) (Ge 2:1-3)

Bear in mind the ancient Sabbath was also recognized as a time to begin focusing ones attention much more closely on JEHOVAH'S word or "law," and having IT "in our mouths." (Le 23:3) (Ex 13:6, 9) (De 31:10, 11) Are we beginning to grasp the symbolic spiritual message here yet of CEASING to eat what we HAVE been eating in exchange for the spiritual food that is ACTUALLY found in Jehovah's word? How about notion of CEASING to perform the "laborious work" of what is now once again a completely FALSE ministry AFTER our "catching sight" finally of the fact that it indeed is? (Mt 24:15, 16) Compare (Re 17:6b)

You see a "REMOVAL" or a "taking away of the bridegroom" from Jehovah's earthly "sanctuary" by means of a broken "holy covenant" and a commensurate "putting in place" of the "disgusting thing" that has once again succeeded in "DESTROYING" this "temple" by means of these "smooth words" ALWAYS results in genuine scriptural teachings and truths being exchanged for "unclean inspired expressions that look like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, the wild beast and the false prophet." (Da 11:30-32) (1 Cor 3:16, 17) (1 Sa 16:14) (Re 16:13) This is REGARDLESS of how effectively or even "smoothly" this "leaven of the Pharisees" is made to appear as "delicacies of the king and his drinking wine." (Mt 16:6) (Da 1:8) If even what was the ONE true faith and ministry has now "fallen" into the hands of satan and the demons, this of course means that until Jehovah's prophets return to renew the broken covenant, "ALL" the tables of spiritual food are now… "FULL of FILTHY VOMIT." (Isa 28:8) (Re 18:2) Is it any wonder we are again forbidden to even "TOUCH" these "unclean things" if we wish for Jehovah to once again "take us in?" (2 Cor 6:17)

Yes what we are considering here in the opening chapters of Daniel is simply another of MANY prophetic dramas, illustrations or even examples of the very same message we find here also in Matthew 9:14, 15. The "vegetables" that Daniel and his three companions continued insisting upon instead was another way of symbolizing spiritual food or "manna" ("unfermented cakes" or "unleavened bread") that was produced exclusively by Jehovah and thus uncorrupted by the figurative "leaven of the Pharisees" or "teachings and commands of MEN as doctrine." (Mt 15:9)

The RESULT of their obedience to this divine directive in the SETTING being portrayed here in Daniel (namely the same one we again find ourselves in also today immediately prior to another installment of a world power with theocratically appointed shepherds) was not only that Jehovah himself began to "give them knowledge and insight in all writing and wisdom and …understanding in all sorts of visions and dreams," but also subsequently appoint these same ones to positions of tremendous power and authority AMONG this new world power or "kingdom of God" which of course is ALWAYS Israel at that point whether it be fleshly or spiritual. (Da 1:17 2:48, 49) Once again the name Israel literally means—ruler and contender with God, and it simply does not matter if these rulers or even "holy ones" include ones like the ancient Nebuchadrezzar of Babylon, Cyrus of the Medo-Persian Empire, or even a Caesar of Rome. (Php 4:22) (Isa 44:28 45:1) (Jer 25:9)

So while I certainly continue to encourage questions and comments from my brothers and sisters on this particular teaching of Jesus at Matthew 9:14, 15, in MY mind the only one that might continue to linger here would be about how his words found at Matthew 28:18-20 would seem to connect to this. Since we now know that the "acting wickedly against" and even "LEAVING the holy covenant" is precisely what "removes" the bridegroom" from the "bride" and "puts in place" the "disgusting thing that causes desolation" in Jehovah's earthly "temple," then why did Jesus seem to suggest his departure from his "bride" would be connected in some way with the "conclusion of the system of things?"

Once again an adulterous violation of the holy marriage covenant ALWAYS results not only in a "great tribulation" or even a great "breakdown" of what is now described as a very promiscuous "DAUGHTER of Jehovah's people" (precisely what is BORN from these illicit spiritual relations) as opposed to Israel, but also in what Jesus identifies in Matthew 13:39 as "A conclusion of A system of things." (Jer 8:11) (Eze 23:1-4) (Isa 1:21) An examination of the ancient koine Greek writings will reveal that at least in this case the way this verse is rendered in the NWT is much more accurate than most. But aside from that, the entire history of Jehovah's nation makes it exceedingly clear that a broken holy kingdom covenant ALSO means that the WORLD POWER or even "king of the north" that would take the "LEAD" in this "apostasy" is now in line to be utterly DESTROYED by Jehovah at the hands of a NEW world power that will now replace it. OF COURSE this would involve "a conclusion of a system of things."

On this particular occasion or "time" of the "SEVEN times" that Jesus is ultimately speaking of here in Matthew 28:18-20, the holy marriage covenant that he had just renewed prior to his death and resurrection would come to involve an entirely new manifestation of the Roman world power that would not only render Jehovah's adverse judgments upon its INITIAL manifestation, but also the apostate form of Judaism that it had "led into apostasy with smooth words." (Da 4:23, 32 11:30-32) (1 Th 5:1-3) (Lu 21:24)

Books that Jehovah's enemies have endeavored to remove from the Bible canon over the last two millenniums reveal a VERY close and cooperative relationship between this secondary manifestation of Rome and the first century Apostles. However even among the books we are all familiar with this favorable relationship is revealed in accounts like Philippians 4:21, 22 where we find that Jehovah's "holy ones" were even among the very "household of Caesar" at this point in time. Is it any wonder then that on one occasion we find the Apostle Paul "APPEALING to Caesar" when he was experiencing persecution? (Ac 25:11) With information like this in mind, let us please consider the following question:

If even the Apostle Paul was aware that the demonic efforts to "take away the bridegroom" was "already at work" among the first century Christian congregation as early as 50 or so CE as well as the fact that this spiritual death would as always require the figurative "pangs of pregnancy" connected with the foretold "times and seasons" he speaks of at 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3, do we imagine that the resurrected Jesus speaking here in Matthew 28:18-20 was LESS aware of this? (2 Th 2:5-7) (Jer 15:9)

When it comes to the extremely tragic spiritual "fall" of the "fifth" of these "seven" foretold "kings" that would appear during the "seven times" or "appointed times of the nations" that the Apostle John speaks of there at Revelation 17:10, this same Apostle was tasked with the very unpleasant announcement that this had actually occurred as early as around 96 CE. Even if it is worded in a manner that should direct our attention to scriptures like Matthew 24:15, 16 and Daniel 11:30-32 in this case, this very same announcement is repeated again by him at 1 John 2:18.

So yes, it was in fact only around 22 or so years after the "conclusion of the system of things" of the first century that the "bridegroom" was "taken away" from his "bride" by means of spiritual adultery or even "harlotry." (Mt 28:18-20) As always this would be due to the spiritually adulterous act of breaking the holy marriage covenant, and in this case this spiritual "prostitution" would have occurred for the fifth of the "seven" foretold "times" that it WOULD prior to the Millennial Reign. (Isa 1:21) (Re 18:2-4)

Are we beginning to recognize that the more we come to actually comprehend the symbolic spiritual language that is ALWAYS utilized in the holy writings INCLUDING the Gospel accounts, the more we will in turn begin to appreciate that ANY time we witness someone endeavoring to convince people of things like- "how simple and easily understood the teachings of Jesus are," the fact is they are only exposing how very little of the scriptures they actually understand. Once again Jesus HIMSELF openly states that these teachings are in reality "sacred secrets" that would ultimately be revealed only by means of Jehovah's holy spirit and be delivered ONLY through the mouths of his true prophets in order for the prospective or potential "brides of the lamb" to IDENTIFY these prophets. (Da 2:26-28) Nevertheless just as demonstrated for us in accounts like Matthew 13:10, 11, even when these prophets actually do begin to explain these "carefully concealed" things, it is only in the case of the ones who are genuinely and persistently endeavoring to uncover these "hidden treasures" that Jehovah will open their minds and hearts to actually grasp and appreciate them. (Mt 7:7 11:25 13:10, 11 16:17) (Ac 16:14) (Pr 2:4) (Col 2:3) (2 Cor 6:17) (Mt 24:15, 16)

Assuming we are able to actually take these scriptures along with this very sound reasoning on them to heart, as we continue considering these more seldom addressed teachings of Jesus we will in turn only continue to experience our confusion and lack of understanding on OTHERS quickly dissipating. ALL of these teachings are in fact directly connected to each other, and the more we begin to actually grasp them the more we will continue to realize something I have been pointing out for several years now. This is namely that there are in reality VERY FEW divine messages being conveyed to the anointed ones in the holy writings even if they are being delivered in MANY different ways. EACH of these variations is designed to focus our attention on and better explain specific FACETS of what is ultimately the very same phenomenon with the intent of helping us to at some point actually comprehend the bigger picture. The reason this is necessary is because even if these messages are very few, they are nonetheless from Jehovah, and this in turn qualifies them as exactly what Paul speaks of in accounts like Romans 11:33-35.

But assuming we have personally been able to at least somewhat grasp and appreciate what we have covered so far in connection with Matthew 9:14, 15 by means of taking a sincere and prayerful approach to it, we might be in a better position to genuinely grasp what Jesus now says immediately afterwards in verses 16 and 17. Jehovah willing, let's by all means let's pick up the discussion with these verses in my next post.

Re: The more unaddressed teachings of Jesus

#10 Post by Get out of her » 8 months ago

16 "Nobody sews a patch of unshrunk cloth upon an old outer garment; for its full strength would pull from the outer garment and the tear would become worse. 17 Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins; but if they do, the wineskins would burst and the wine spills out and the wineskins are ruined. But people put new wine into new wineskins, and both things are preserved. No one that has drunk old wine wants the new. For he says, "The old is nice." (Mt 9:16, 17) (Mr 2:21, 22) (Lu 5:37-39)

Regardless of how desperately satan and his minions would have us believe that the teaching methods of Jesus were of the most simple nature, we realize of course that Jehovah does not send his prophets to the earth to give sewing lessons or to provide winemakers with pointers on the best way to store their product. As was virtually always the case, we are once again dealing with illustrations here or what I often refer to as symbolic spiritual language. (Mt 13:34) (Ho 12:10) Aside from beginning with a prayerful approach to Bible reading and study along with staying completely clear of all extrabiblical materials which are always nothing but "teachings and commands of MEN as doctrine" in theses post-apostasy/pre-kingdom time frames, it is always very important to take into account the setting and context of any scriptural passage we are considering at the moment. (Eph 6:18) (Mt 15:9 16:6) (Isa 28:8) Upon doing so the question we would do well to consider in this case would be the following:

Why did Jesus choose this specific context or setting of the stealing away of the "bridegroom" by this figurative "thief in the night" to PRODUCE this particular illustration here at Matthew 9:16-18?

Now that we are clear on the fact that Jesus was referring to the "breaking in and stealing away" we are considering in accounts like Daniel 11:30-32 and 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8 as opposed to the violent execution he would soon be facing which in stark contrast is actually the most pivotal thing involved with RESTORING this "bridegroom" to his "bride," we are by extension in a much better position to grasp this next illustration. What Jesus is illustrating here is the very same point brought out in accounts like Ecclesiastes 1:15. What exactly is that?

Just as would ALWAYS prove to be the case during the "seven times" that a spiritual "fall" or broken kingdom covenant would require another "striking of the shepherd" and corresponding "birth of the barren woman," Jehovah's "two witnesses" do not arrive on the earth to try and patch up the now completely "apostate" world power whose "harlotrous" and even "disgusting" spiritual condition resulted from "acting wickedly against" the PREVIOUS marriage covenant. (Da 4:23, 32 11:30-32) (Isa 1:21 10:6) (Re 11:3 17:10) (Le 26:24) (Jer 15:9) Jehovah has no intention of remarrying the spiritually adulterous woman that he has already "divorced," and this in fact had already been well illustrated or even prophetically "typified" in the Mosaic Law Code (Jer 3:8) (Eze 44:22) (He 8:5)

The Medo-Persian Empire for example that would soon supplant and even DESTROY the Babylonian one that rebelled against Jehovah's law would of course be an entirely new manifestation of theocratic authority and power on the earth. It would be distinct in many ways, just as a new wife would be. (Da 5) And why would any man endeavor to FORCE his new wife to be exactly like the one he had just divorced? Would it not be very much like trying to place new wine into old wineskins? BOTH would now be ruined! But then, would not this particular way of illustrating the point indicate that there would be at least SOMETHING here that Jehovah would want to preserve in connection with this figurative "old garment" or "wineskin" and thus not "ruin"?

Once again, getting into the practice of bearing in mind the specific setting or prophetic time frame we are dealing with in connection with any given scriptural passage should go a long way in helping us grasp the deeper meanings of these teachings. Something else that Jesus had to say right in this same time period at Matthew 5:17 alone should help us appreciate that there was indeed an additional message being conveyed in this case other than simply the fact that the apostate form of Judaism that once again existed on the earth due to spiritual adultery was about to be annihilated outright by what would soon once again qualify as "HOLY ones" among what in this case would be the SECOND foretold manifestation of Rome. (Php 4:22) What exactly was this?

This would be the "FIFTH" of the "seven kings" that the Apostle John speaks of prophetically there in Revelation 17:10, and unfortunately we can determine from this same scripture that this fifth world power would itself also have experienced a spiritual "fall" as early as 96 or so CE, since this was around the time Revelation was written. This is confirmed for us right around the same time period at 1 John 2:18. Nevertheless the fact that this "fifth king" would prove to be the FIRST of the THREE foretold manifestations of what would qualify as SPIRITUAL Israel rather than fleshly prior to the Millennial Reign should ALSO help us understand what Jesus is conveying to us in these scriptural accounts.

Yes even if any attempt to revive a fleshly form of Judaism after it broke the covenant for the fourth foretold "time" over two millenniums ago would be recognized by Jehovah as being just as "obsolete" as the law code it would claim to adhere to, the fact that Jesus himself along with even ALL the genuine theocratic shepherds that followed him were CONSTANTLY referring to and citing this ancient law code in their teachings should help us appreciate why it was never intended to be destroyed outright. Ultimately the Mosaic Law Code came to be recognized essentially as the Old Testament or even the Hebrew Scriptures altogether, and they even up until this very moment serve as INDEFENSIBLE tools when it comes to helping people actually understand all the various facets of the "reality" they were intended to illustrate in a symbolic and prophetic manner. (Col 2:17) (He 9:24) This is regardless of the fact that it was even explicitly identified as even a kind of "curse" that would only continue to condemn people until it could be "fulfilled" with the "reality" it prophetically "typified." (Ga 3:13, 19) (He 8:5)

Yes it would be as if this "NEW wine" of the NEW Testament or even "Law of love" would in some sense be "KEPT ON THE DREGS" of the old, while at the same time "filtered" or purified, and by extension now SUPERIOR to the figurative wine that preceded it. (Isa 25:6) (Ro 13:10) (Joh 2:10) But with this information in mind, is the final portion of this teaching of Jesus beginning to take on a meaning for us that it may not have up until now? It was evidently only the writer Luke in this case who seems to have taken note of the final words Jesus spoke in connection with these figurative "old and new garments and wineskins."

"No one that has drunk old wine wants new, for he says, "The old is nice." (Lu 5:39)

Are there not even many millions of people on the earth also at this very moment who prefer to be recognized as FLESHLY Israelites or even Jews under the OLD Law rather than spiritual ones under the NEW covenant? However at this point it should be clear that what Jesus is speaking of here goes even deeper than that.

At ANY "time" in which one of these foretold world powers would find themselves in line for complete destruction at the hands of an upcoming one for spiritual "harlotry" committed against Jehovah, by the time Jehovah's prophets or "two witnesses" arrive to renew and inaugurate the broken covenant the earth is ALWAYS dealing with the fallout of MANY years of NOTHING BUT "teachings and commands of MEN as doctrine" rather than those of God's word. (Mt 15:9) (1 Th 5:1-3) (Lu 21:24) (Re 11:2) Accounts like Revelation 16:13 in turn should help us appreciate that ultimately satan and the demons are the source of these deceptions, which of course would tend to make them very insidious and well crafted to appear as actually based on scripture.

Tragically at least many of these false teachings are so well ingrained in people by this time that almost without exception they are unable to let go of them even when finally confronted with scriptures that directly and clearly refute them. They have grown very comfortable with what is represented by the "OLD wine" here in this case, and the TRUE teachings which in reality only APPEAR as new to them at this point seem very unsettling. It's as if they are altogether a foreign language or even a completely "new song" they had never heard before, no matter how thoroughly they can be demonstrated with the scriptures by Jehovah's true prophets. (Eze 33:32) (Re 14:3) Even when it comes to an understanding of scripture that they finally DO begin to recognize as false, most often they prefer to exchange this teaching for simply ANOTHER that cannot be established scripturally. Once again this is often because they are much more familiar with it, having heard it long being promulgated by merely some other false religion. They seem to reason it must naturally be a true teaching after all since obviously it always seemed to oppose the one they now finally recognize as false.

What we are considering here in the final portion of this illustration of Jesus is simply another way of depicting what was pictured symbolically and prophetically with the way that the "running away" of the "virgin" or shepherd boy David from a now apostate King Saul for at least a period of time amounted to nothing more than exchanging one form of bondage for another by seeking refuge with the Philistines simply because he now recognized them as FELLOW enemies of King Saul, and by extension somehow on his side or even suddenly on his team so to speak. (1 Sa 21:10-15) Compare (Mt 24:15, 16)

With that in mind, particularly in view of the constant "cross marks" being produced here by a drooling David in a condition of bondage, should we not be getting the message that in these prophetic time frames of our "catching sight" of a national apostasy many of us would at some point become guilty of adopting teachings that are associated with the worship of the cross? Nevertheless according to Jesus' words there at Luke 5:39 alone it would be at least partly due to this issue of comfortable familiarity that ultimately only a "few" of the spiritual "virgins" and "widows" of a broken holy marriage covenant ever make it all the way to the next foretold figurative "marriage feast." (Mt 22:14 25:1-10) (La 1:1, 4) (Lu 22:28, 29) Completely discarding extremely well entrenched false notions or mere religious dogma is indeed very difficult, and it is one of the reasons why becoming true worshipers of Jehovah in these time frames of the "two witnesses" is described as like "picking up a torture stake" and then carrying it "continually." (Mt 16:24) (Mal 3:2, 3) (1 Pe 2:7, 8)

Now upon contemplating all the above things, would the prophetic/symbolic drama of the newly anointed shepherd BOY or "virgin" David ATTEMPTING at some point but ultimately rejecting the weapons and armor that everyone else was rather accustomed to perhaps begin to suddenly take on more meaning for us? (1 Sa 17:39) (Mt 25:1, 2) Was the LITERAL warfare against Jehovah's enemies in the case of FLESHLY Israel and ITS weapons not a "typical representation" of the SPIRITUAL warfare and ITS corresponding weaponry that true Christians would later engage in? (He 8:5) (Eph 6:10-18)

It simply cannot be overstated how important it is in these prophetic time frames immediately prior to another foretold "coming of the kingdom" for the anointed "virgins" and "widows" to understand that basically EVERYTHING they have been taught their entire lives in connection with spiritual matters is nothing more than the "leavened" bread of the figurative "Pharisees and Sadducees." (Mt 16:6) Even worse however they most often qualify as what Paul described as "strongly entrenched things" by the time that Jehovah's "two witnesses" arrive on the earth for another ministry to "Christ's domestics." (2 Cor 10:4) (Mt 24:45) (Re 11:3) What Jesus is actually doing there at Luke 5:39 is acknowledging the difficulty involved in overcoming these "strongly entrenched things" on the part of the anointed "virgins" in these prophetic time frames. This is in fact a major reason for an even more sobering thing he has to say at Matthew 22:14.

It is my intention to continue considering more seldom addressed teachings of Jesus such as this on this particular thread until I feel I have covered at least the majority of them in a manner that actually begins to do them justice. In the meantime if anyone would like to suggest a specific one they happen to be particularly curious about I would certainly encourage them to do so.
