If you get a glass-coated RFID tag injected into your hand, you become 'transhuman' (apparently) or a cyborg. So you can wave your hand around and unlock your or phone or pay for your beer and bus ride. There's a way to go because cyborg standards are not very universal, its a work in progress. But - can you see where this might be heading?... Or should I say foreheading?

Yet to work, such a chip would need to be truly universal and account for potential obsolescence. My own flirtation with implanted technology came to an end when I moved away from London, making an Oyster-equipped hand pointless. Even with a return to London on the cards, I’m thinking twice about returning to my project, since Oyster cards are being phased out.

Such a development may actually be a cause for optimism for implant enthusiasts, however, because instead of Oyster cards, London's transport authority is allowing people to ride the subways and buses using bank cards. It marks the beginnings of a slow move toward a world where everything will be accessed from a single RFID microchip. If that day comes, I can’t think of a safer place to keep it than inside my own body.

Incidentally - the article refers to 'using bank cards' - it is only rumours but there is talk that the banks - all of them have gone - today (Sun 13th July 2021). I don't know what is supposed to have happened but if they have it might mean crypto currency will become the new way of securing loans.

But the question is, would people actually do this? How odd would it be to swallow a pill or glue something to your arm to avoid entering a password or pulling out a key? Would you?

The Faulty Watchtowers could have several implications.
