Maybe no one could have stopped this but we all know that few elders really care for the flock. The coroner was angry with the elders. ... times.html

The elder should have warned the proper authorities to take action, she was not valide so they could help her to go to a carehome and be looked after without the murderous intentions of the husband.

There are so many charities in the UK. Someone could have helped?!

He must have hated her from his guts. Stabbing someone almost 50 times.

I feel sorry for both of them. Yes the elder should have opened his mouth for sure.

Hi Marina,

I think in many cases the elders themselves fall victim to the system of training and indoctrination that the Society gives them. If an elder went to the authorities after a JW confided in them, the first thing that would happen is that that elder would be deleted as an elder. The thing that the WT wants to preserve, above all else, is clergy-penitent privilege. They advertise the care elders have for the flock. But any elder that tries to do that outside of WT protocols is finished as an elder.

In all the training the elders get from WT, absolutely none of it emphasizes that the elder use his own conscience to decide how to act. It is a system designed around the idea of protecting itself first. Any other interests only come after that. And it is a system that, in effect, weeds out those who care for others ahead of the WT.

The best elders get moved towards the door, and eventually out. This is why it appears that elders in general don't care. The ones remaining are all company men. Compare this post. This 'group self preservation' theme seems to be the way all human organizations gravitate towards.

Within the WT Org, there is much pressure to suppress the individual personality in favor of the group. Individual conscience is also suppressed. Whereas, in the NT, individual conscience is highlighted.
Jesus judges us as a person and not as part of a Group.

Hi Bobcat, yes the best elders do get shown the door.

And Maria - a sister said to a special pioneer that Jehovah has always looked after her. To which the special pioneer replied, "he does not look after us as individuals dear, but as a body of people."

Yumph!

Hi Marina,

2 Chronicles 16:9

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

I beg to differ with that special pioneer.
