Re: Interesting Stuff - Very Old Trees

#472 Post by Bobcat » 1 month ago

An article on very old trees: Here.

They are putting some of the oldest trees found around the time of the Giza pyramids (25th-26th century BCE) based on the tree rings. One of the reasons I mention this is because according to the Masoretic Text, the flood would have happened in the 23rd-24th century BCE. This dating would have meant that the tree may have been a couple centuries old when the flood waters came.

But, see this post which has a Bible timeline corrected with the LXX, SP, and Josephus' writings (which all agree with each other, indicating they had similar sources). These sources show differences in the time between birth of several of the post flood patriarchs amounting to a difference of 650 years. This places the flood around 2953 BCE. This would mean that these ancient trees (along with the pyramids) were still post flood. The link should highlight the first of these patriarchs with the alternate timeline (Arphaxad). (One of the arguments made against the flood is the fact that the pyramids do not show catastrophic water damage. This corrected timeline would help show why that is. For some discussion of the possible powerful effect the flood waters could have had on the pyramids, see this post.)

Re: Interesting Stuff - The Power of Loss Aversion

An article on Loss Aversion: Here.

The article discusses how loss aversion may be more powerful than the promise of gain. A person might decide to not make a decision because of what he perceives he will lose, even though the decision may offer the promise of gain.

Re: Interesting Stuff - Paper Sphinx

Hi Marina,

If pyramids are not one's cup of tea, how about a paper sphinx: Here.

Paper airplanes are more my thing. Those paper sphinxes just don't fly that well. :D

(That's a Cessna T-50 Bobcat ... Aha! You thought "Bobcat" referred to some feline?! Cats don't fly that well either. That's probably why I don't make paper cats.)
