Youtube has to be the greatest thing on the internet. you can find all the music from your past. And in my case I find actual videos where I am personally there at the time, I don't even need to video myself. All the U2 that I posted I was there in person.

here are some more that I am at, but there not U2:

But now returning to U2, in 2001 I saw them in March in sun rise fl (near Miami), in May I went to Chicago to see them, and then in December in Tampa and wouldn't you know it I found them all:

But my story is from 1992. I was 16 and Bono was 31. They were touring for the first time in 5 years since 1987. Lakeland Fl is where they started their tour so since the first night was going to be there, they practiced for a week each day before the big night. They were staying in a hotel in Orlando and they would drive to Lakeland to the civic center each morning and stay until evening, then back to the hotel. It was about a 50 min drive. I would drive from Tampa to Lakeland and get there before them (many others were there too) and we would wait for them to show up and when they did they would pull up right pass where we were allowed to stand at the end of the driveway and they could just get out of the car and go right in the center, but they would first come down to us standing at the end driveway and they would just talk to us, take pictures, etc. I being a 16 year old who was going to see his favorite band for the first time ever in concert never could have thought that I would see then for about 4 or 5 days in a row before the concert and see them each day directly interacting with them. Anyway, I guess the teenage girl inside me  (I am half female on my mom's side  ) I decided that being that I was their with Bono each day I was going to write him a letter and personally give it to him  So I did, I handed it to him and he put it in his vest pocket and then posed for a picture. I still have that pic and you can see my little girly letter to him in his pocket. :cheerleader:

Now on my dad's side I am male  so now to something a little less girly. On the day that we got to go inside it was because it was raining out in the morning when they got there and they saw us all out at the end driveway but because of the rain they went straight inside. We stood out for hours and the rain didn't let up, then at some point a man came out and waved us all to come up the driveway and he said that as a thank you from the band that they wanted to let us come in out of the rain and we could sit off to the side of the stage and watch them practice. It was like 20 of us in the rain group and seeing the stage of how it was going to be on the concert night with the cars hanging down and everything, it was so cool. It was like a private concert for us. When I actually went to the concert on the night of, it was strange knowing that I was in there without the now crowd of people.

But wait that is not the end of the story. When the guy that brought us inside now said we had to leave, we went outside and it was still raining and it was night about the time the band would leave anyway to go back to the hotel. Well I got in my car fast because of the rain and I started to leave to go back to Tampa. I was at a light to get me on I-4 to head home but I noticed that I was behind the car Bono and Edge were riding in back and forth from the hotel (Adam and Larry rode in another one). So instead of me getting on I-4 to Tampa, I stayed behind them and headed to Orlando. I was right behind them the whole way to the hotel. It was raining hard still and their driver was still doing about 80 mph. For about 50mins I was just a car length behind them. Then they pull up to the hotel and I am still behind and the hotel men open the door for them and they get out of the car and go straight into the hotel, meanwhile the hotel guy came to me thinking I wanted him to park my car, thats when I knew I had better leave right away and head back to Tampa.

Hi JA 2.0,

Interesting! Sounds like you were in groupie heaven down there in central Florida.

Was your Mom A Bono fan too? How about Dad?

It seems your parents were very lenient in allowing you to go to those concerts if they are/were JW's. Of course I don't know your history or theirs, so that's a different matter totally.

I've been out of Tampa for dang near 35 years, but it is where I was born and raised and will always hold a piece of my heart. I have a brother just up from you in Hudson, so I still make it down there now and again. Hopefully if the cards fall in our favor, there will be another Florida resident that posts here soon.

Thank you for your story/memories, I enjoyed it.

This is always a good one to listen to sipping on your first cup of coffee in the morning. Thank you Glen!

I didn't grow up a JW, my mom was one but became inactive when I was about 7, so for then on I had never had to go to meetings again. It was me on my own in my adult life when I was 27 (46 now) that I had an interest in going to the kingdom hall again.

What area of Tampa did you live in? What schools did you go to?

Thanks for sharing, it's nice to know these types of things.
